Newburgh Healthcare has been fortunate to receive many visits and donations from community organizations and businesses in the year 2013.
In the month of April we welcomed Byron Douglas, the Sunday and Midday meteorologist for channel 14 News. Byron provided our residents with an educational lecture about the weather and the nature of storm prediction. The residents enjoyed meeting one of our local television weatherman and we appreciate his willingness to spend time out of his day visiting our facility.
In May, Smith’s Greenhouse in Darmstadt Indiana was generous enough to donate 42 geraniums to Newburgh Healthcare! Thanks to their kindness, residents were able to enjoy a day of Spring planting. Geraniums potted by our residents were used as table centerpieces during the Activity Department’s “Cinco De Mayo” party. Newburgh Healthcare owner Bruce Baker and his wife Carol planted the rest of the donated plants in the garden beds and in pots for display on the grounds of the facility.
The Activity Department would also like to thank the young members of our community who assisted with our Cinco De Mayo party. Briauna Cole and Sean Kissel (pictured below) helped craft novelties for the monthly “themed” event, assisted in decorating the Dining Room, and handed out beads during the party.
On Memorial Day, May 27th, Cheryl Brady from the Newburgh American Legion visited our Veteran residents and presented them with poppies, recognizing their service to our country.
If you are interested in volunteering for the Activity Department or if you are involved in a community organization who would like to visit or provide services to our residents, please contact Rebecca Odom, Recreation Director, or Jessica Reynolds, Assistant Director to Activities at (812) 853-2931.
