There were many parties thrown during National Nursing Home Week, and throughout the week our North Unit Activities Director worked cooperatively with the North Unit staff to throw a “themed event” each day.
The North Unit and Activity staff dressed each day in keeping with the “theme” party to make the events more exciting for our residents. The week was kicked off with the “Tie Day Event” on Monday, May 14th. Each resident and staff member wore a tie and played games; refreshments were served to staff and residents, and residents enjoyed dancing with the staff.
On Tuesday, May 15th, the Activity Department and North Unit staff held a “Laundry Day Party.” Staff dressed like “homemakers” and residents enjoyed games such as the “clothes pin drop” and reminisced while hanging laundry on a clothes line in the North Dining Room.
The party held in celebration of National Nursing Home week held on Wednesday, May 16th was the “Hippie Day Event.” The Dining Room was decorated in a “retro” vibe. Our residents played games, refreshments were served, and residents and staff who attended posed for fun pictures!
Thursday’s event, held May 17th, was the “Western Day – OK Corral Party.” Residents again played games and received refreshments. During lunch hour, our residents were also treated to cookout food which was grilled by the Dietary staff and Maintenance Department in celebration of National Nursing Home Week.
The final event held on our North Unit was the “North Unit Grand Ball” held Friday, May 18th. The North Unit Dining Room was transformed into a formal ballroom.
Our residents and staff dressed in their best and enjoyed dancing with our residents and dining on fine sparkling cider in champagne glasses and sampling cheese and crackers.
The Activity Department would like to thank Activities Assistant BJ Paul, for putting creative work and energy into planning all of the events for the North Unit and would also like to thank all of the North Unit staff who dressed in theme costumes throughout National Nursing Home Week and who assisted with the activities!
