“National Nursing Home Week” is a week long event established by the American Health Care Association. Held in May, it celebrates the positive and caring relationship between residents and staff in the health care industry and recognizes the differences made to each other’s lives. During National Nursing Home Week the Activity Department holds a daily special event for the residents. Staff also participate in games and are provided with food each day during the week-long celebration.
Mesker Park Zoo
The Activity Department kicked off the week with a visit from Mesker Park Zoo. Representatives from Mesker’s Education & Outreach Department brought in a variety of animals including: a guinea pig, rat, blue tongue lizard, tortoise, and an unusual English Trumpeter Pigeon. The residents enjoyed the informative program and the opportunity to touch the various animals.

Ice Cream Parlor Party
Another popular event that was held during the 2015 National Nursing Home Week celebration was the “Ice Cream Parlor Party.” Musician Byron Rohrig provided entertainment for our residents while the Activity Department staff served made-to-order ice cream sundaes.
One of the more “creative” activities held during this week was the “Inked” craft activity. The Activity staff set up a mini Tattoo Parlor! Some of our more adventurous residents picked out designs and received gel pen tattoos!
The staff are encouraged to dress in “theme dress” in relation to the parties held each day of National Nursing Home Week. The Activity staff would like to thank everyone who participated! This makes the week extra fun for our residents!
