“National Nursing Home Week” is a week long event held in May that celebrates the positive and caring relationship between residents and staff in the health care industry.
During National Nursing Home Week the Activity Department holds a special event daily for the residents, the staff participate in games, and the staff are also provided with food each day.
Newburgh Healthcare’s chosen theme for National Nursing Home Week 2019 was
“Rainbows and Aromas.”
The Dining Room was decorated in colorful artwork made by the residents during arts & craft activities in April.
Day 1 –
First Southern Baptist Church
held a special service for our residents.
The Activity Department also presented all of our mothers with small floral vases for the occasion!
Day 2 –
Fantastic Floral Day
Staff members are encouraged to dress up each day of National Nursing Home Week to make everything more exciting for the residents. Monday’s theme was
The special event of the day was the
“Fruits and Floral Bingo!” Residents not only won money in the Bingo, but a special scented prize of their choosing!
Day 3 –
Bold and Blue Day
Table tennis is one of our residents’ favorite physical game activities!
“Bold and Blue Day” was the
“Blue Party with Monte Blue” held later that afternoon.
During this party, musician Monte Blue performed for our residents while the Activity staff served blueberry cheesecake and blue punch as refreshments!
Day 4 –
Pretty in Pink Day
On this morning we started our day off by making a sensory craft; scented rice bags that can be used as sachet packets for dresser drawers!
During this event, pianist Therese McKannon provided us with musical entertainment while the Activity staff served ice cream sundaes!
Day 5 –
Green Acres Day
Every activity was fun but the highlight of National Nursing Home Week is always the animal event! This year, Lil’ Rexing’s Pony Express brought a variety of farm animals to visit our residents, including a cow, donkey, goat, and a sheep!
