National Nursing Home Week 2019

“National Nursing Home Week” is a week long event held in May that celebrates the positive and caring relationship between residents and staff in the health care industry.

During National Nursing Home Week the Activity Department holds a special event daily for the residents,  the staff participate in games, and the staff are also provided with food each day.

Newburgh Healthcare’s chosen theme for National Nursing Home Week 2019 was

“Rainbows and Aromas.”

The Dining Room was decorated in colorful artwork made by the residents during arts & craft activities in April.

Day 1 –

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day always falls on the first day of National Nursing Home Week.

A special lunch was provided by our Dietary Department and volunteers from

First Southern Baptist Church

held a special service for our residents.

The Activity Department also presented all of our mothers with small floral vases for the occasion!

Newburgh Healthcare would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to Misti Fraser, owner of 20 West, a luxury boutique style venue for weddings/receptions located in the heart of downtown Newburgh. Misti sponsored an event that is known nationally as the “No Forgotten Women” cause. During the event, attendees hand-crafted floral bouquets to donate to local women in long-term-care facilities who may not receive visitors on Mother’s Day. Several of our residents received these beautiful arrangements! We appreciate Misti and the community members who sponsored their time, money, and hearts toward this cause! You made Mother’s Day so special for many of our residents!

Day 2 –

Fantastic Floral Day

Staff members are encouraged to dress up each day of National Nursing Home Week to make everything more exciting for the residents.  Monday’s theme was

“Fantastic Floral Day!”

The special event of the day was the

“Fruits and Floral Bingo!”  Residents not only won money in the Bingo, but a special scented prize of their choosing!

Day 3 –

Bold and Blue Day

One of the special events planned for this day was “Rainbow Table Tennis.”

Table tennis is one of our residents’ favorite physical game activities!

However, the highlight of

“Bold and Blue Day” was the

“Blue Party with Monte Blue” held later that afternoon.

During this party, musician Monte Blue performed for our residents while the Activity staff served blueberry cheesecake and blue punch as refreshments!

Day 4 –

Pretty in Pink Day

On this morning we started our day off by making a sensory craft; scented rice bags that can be used as sachet packets for dresser drawers!

In the afternoon we celebrated by throwing the “Pretty in Pink Party with Therese McKannon!”

During this event, pianist Therese McKannon provided us with musical entertainment while the Activity staff served ice cream sundaes!

Day 5 –

Green Acres Day

Every activity was fun but the highlight of National Nursing Home Week is always the animal event!  This year, Lil’ Rexing’s Pony Express brought a variety of farm animals to visit our residents, including a cow, donkey, goat, and a sheep!

Day 6  –

Rockin’ Rainbow Day

Our final party for the week was the “Rainbow Pizza Party with Monte Skelton!”

The residents were served fruit pizza and rainbow punch while jazz musician Monte Skelton provided music entertainment!

North Unit Events

Our North Unit staff threw some smaller theme parties in addition to the main events!

We would like to thank all staff who participated in the theme dress and assisted in serving food and providing games during National Nursing Home Week!
