“National Nursing Home Week” is a week long event established by the American Health Care Association. Held in May, it celebrates the positive and caring relationship between residents and staff in the health care industry and recognizes the differences made to each other’s lives. During National Nursing Home Week the Activity Department holds a daily special event for the residents and staff participate in games and are provided with food daily.
The Activity Department kicked off the week by holding a Tie-Dye workshop with our residents. Each resident was provided with a white hankerchief and the Activity staff assisted residents with banding and dying their projects.
The second event held in celebration of National Nursing Home Week was the “Magic and Ventriloquism Show with David Delmar.”
During our mid-week celebration, Mesker Park Zoo visited bringing a variety of animals from the zoo including: a tarantula, snake, rat, blue tongue lizard and a talking parrot! The residents enjoyed the informative program and many were brave enough to touch the animals – even some dared to pet the snake!
The other big highlight of the week was a visit the students of Holy Rosary Catholic School in Evansville. The visit featured both the youngest and the oldest students of Holy Rosary. The older group of 8th grade students performed highlights from their play, “The Fearsome Pirate Frank.” After the play, two young Kindergarten students also gave a dance recital of dances featured from their talent show. Our residents always enjoy the chance to interact with children, and Newburgh Healthcare greatly appreciates the school’s willingness to provide our residents with this special program!
Throughout the week, Newburgh Healthcare not only held parties for our residents, but also had a variety of games for staff to compete in with the opportunity to win prizes at the end of the week-long celebration. Staff were also encouraged to dress in “themed clothing” throughout the week including: Spring Dress, Tie Dye/Retro Dress, Hat Day, Western Dress, and Sports Dress. Staff were served food daily during the week. On Thursday, May 15th the Dietary staff and Maintenance staff grilled out burgers and served other picnic/cookout style foods during the lunch hour for both staff and and all residents at the facility.
